Week #3 - Gavin Liu

For this past week, I was given the responsibility of taking the attendance and addressing late students. I was also given my first teaching opportunity. I believe I did a good job in teaching and instructing the class. All the students were paying attention and seemed to be quiet while I was instructing. I felt extremely comfortable and respected. I was also pleased with my delivery . Being a person with no construction or technology background, I was able to help students and also answer questions or any concerns that they had.

I also learned that by using positive reinforcement, the classroom becomes a less chaotic environment. For example, there was one student who was misbehaving. The first thing I told the student was to sit down quietly and do their work. At first it worked, but then he kept bugging me and his classmates. I eventually ignored him . After the student completed his work, I complemented on how it was well done which in the end, created  a more peaceful environment since he was no longer bugging me and the other students and was actually quiet.. This was possible through the 3 step process in positive reinforcement.

The only difficulty I had was trying to get the attention of certain students. Some students don't care about their work and only want to socialize. It seems no matter how many times you address the student, they end up socializing.

This picture best represents praise. I feel that praise is one of the most important steps in positive reinforcement. In a classroom environment, praise allows the student to feel appreciated therefore a repetition of appropriate behavior will occur. Without praise, the student will continue to act inappropriately.
